Smith and Wesson 1940 MK II Semi Auto Rifle in 9mm Black - Pre-Owned
Info about this rifle taken from Wikipedia:
The Model 1940 Light Rifle was a military semi-automatic carbine designed for Great Britain in preparation for WWII. The design was not considered suitable for full-scale production and most trial rifles sent to Great Britain were destroyed by the end of WWII.
In early 1939 the British government asked Smith & Wesson to design a light rifle firing the 9x19 Parabellum cartridge for military use. Testing revealed that the rifle broke within 1000 rounds under use with higher pressure UK military rounds and the British government required a redesign to withstand 5000 rounds without failure. The receiver was strengthened with an external sleeve to meet that requirement; rifles with the strengthened receiver are designated Mark II. The British cancelled the contract after receiving 60 prototypes and 950 rifles, approximately 200 of which were the stronger Mark II design. The rifles were never issued to the armed forces as most were cut in half and dumped at sea. Five were saved for display in museums including the Tower of London.
